    • The primary goal of the Bharatmala Project is to develop a robust road infrastructure network that connects economic corridors, coastal areas, border regions, and remote locations. It aims to reduce travel time, improve freight efficiency, and stimulate economic growth.

    • Economic Corridors: Development of 9,000 km of economic corridors to facilitate faster movement of goods and reduce logistics costs.
    • Inter-corridor and Feeder Routes: Upgradation of 6,000 km of inter-corridor and feeder routes to ensure seamless connectivity between major corridors.
    • National Corridor Efficiency Improvement: Enhancing the efficiency of 5,000 km of national corridors by decongesting choke points and improving existing highways.
    • Border and International Connectivity Roads: Construction of 2,000 km of roads to improve connectivity with neighboring countries and border areas.
    • Coastal and Port Connectivity Roads: Development of 2,000 km of roads to improve access to ports and coastal regions, facilitating trade and tourism.
    • Greenfield Expressways: Building 800 km of new expressways to provide high-speed connectivity between major cities.
    • Balanced Regional Development: Ensuring road development in underserved and backward areas for balanced regional growth.
  3. Implementation:
    • The project is being implemented in phases, with Phase I focusing on the development of 34,800 km of roads at an estimated cost of INR 5.35 lakh crore.
    • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is the nodal agency responsible for executing the project, with support from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other agencies.

    • The Bharatmala Project is funded through various sources, including budgetary allocations, market borrowings, private investments, and toll revenues. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are also encouraged to leverage private sector expertise and funding.
